Woodcock flights are coming through and these unique looking birds - beautiful in their own right - feed heavily along the way. The Austerlitz Club, Inc., established in 1927, is a private club nestled in beautiful northern Columbia County and is a member of the North American Game bird Association. Encompassing over 500 acres of groomed fields and wooded hedgerows specifically maintained for upland bird hunting. The Austerlitz Club offers some of the best pheasant hunting habitat in New York State. The Club offers excellent pheasant hunting with birds raised by our resident manager from day old chicks to ensure good fliers, excellent sport and an outstanding meal at the end of the day. In addition, the club offers chuckers and quail for preseason dog training and hunting during the season. Members may also deer hunt. The Club also offers tower shoots, five-stand and a 400-yard rifle and pistol range. Members and their families may use the one and half acre spring fed pond for dog training, trout fishing, swimming and ice skating.

Diverse cover, flighty birds and good dog work make for a great pheasant hunt at Basswood Lodge. Our pheasant season runs from Sept. 1st through April 15. We take pride in the quality of our birds. We plant a variety of cover including corn, buckwheat, sorghum, switch grass, sunflowers, as well as natural cover such as goldenrod, canary grass, cattails and red willow brush. This allows good cover for the birds throughout the fall and winter and into spring. Pheasant hunters are welcome to bring their own dogs and hunt on their own. Those hunters who don’t own a dog can hunt with one of our guides and bird dogs.We offer flushing dogs and pointers to suit the hunter’s preference. We also offer pheasant hunting memberships.

Eastern View Outfitters LLC Preserve has thousands of acres of privately managed ground ranging from picked agricultural fields, secondary growth pasture lands, to rolling meadows and mixed hardwood forests. This allows us to give our upland hunters a variety of challenging terrain to hunt upland birds in. We are only offering fully Guided hunts for ringneck pheasants at this time. Ringneck pheasants are some of the most beautiful of all game birds, a rewarding bird to pursue! We will be tailoring the hunts to parties of 10 or less persons. This gives each person plenty of ample shot opportunities in the group and safe hunting conditions. All hunts will have a licensed NYS Guide on hand and a Gundog. The Gundogs will be provided for locating and retrieving the game birds your party harvests. We utilize both pointing dogs and flushing dogs depending on the cover we will be hunting. Our guests are certainly welcome to bring their own dogs on the hunt. Whether you own seasoned gun dogs or are introducing that puppy to the art of game bird hunting, we encourage you to come hunt our preserve. If your party has their own Gundog--the Guide will gladly sideline his dog/s to allow your dog/s exclusive hunting privileges. All bird cleaning is included in the hunt price as well as refreshments during the hunt and complimentary adult beverages after the hunt. Gratuity is not included and 15% is a common tip for each Guide. ($15 tip per hunter) No hunting license is required to hunt at our preserve

Hunter's Garden Preserve is a private limited membership club with Long Island's finest hunting grounds. Hunter's Garden Preserve is situated 65 miles east of Manhattan in a small hamlet at the beginning of the Hamptons known as Northampton. The club property consists of 200 pristine acres designed and tailored by owner Brian V. Klug especially for upland pheasant open field hunting. The property is surrounded by thousands of county and state owned forest land consisting of Pine and Oak trees. The hunts themselves take place along a wooded ridge where twelve heavily wooded uphill "butts" are strategically arrayed around the irregularly shaped hill. A minimum of 150 pheasants are released with one or two hunters at each gun position and the dog handlers and retriever dogs positioned alongside. The Master of the Hunt and the “bird boys” accompany the hunters in the field. Hunters move from one position to the next by horn signals. The challenging overhead and passing shots and the exceptionally well trained dogs make these hunts a unique wingshooting adventure.

Tamarack Preserve opened in 1992 as a non proprietary hunting and fishing membership club. The Club leases lands primarily from the Bontecou family for members to pursue upland birds, trout, bass, ducks, deer, turkey and geese. One of the primary reasons for the forming of Tamarack was to provide a vehicle to allow the lands to remain undeveloped and further the agrarian and sporting use of the property. The lands have been farmed, hunted and fished for nearly 80 years. The philosophy of Tamarack is to provide a relaxed and responsive atmosphere in which sportsmen and women may pursue fish and game. The Club caters more to hunters and sports-minded individuals than to those seeking a social environment as would be realized by membership in a country club.
