Oregon Pheasant Hunting

We have 640 acres of some of the finest native and cropland habitat in Central Oregon. All of our birds are wild raised released birds. They are raised in our native habitat covered flight pens. These flight pens are designed to teach our birds to live and act just like wild birds.Our hunting preserve terrain is rolling grassy hills with some sage and juniper cover. Also, there is some cropland and much native Central Oregon grasses.

We have private access to over 5,800 acres of private, natural grasslands (CRP), food plots, creek bottoms, shelter belts, ponds and draws. We focus entirely on the quality of the hunt. We don't run a lot of hunters through our property like others operations do. Our professional guides provide outstanding personal service. Busting From The Cattails Your group will be guided by experienced, friendly guides using well trained flushing Labs. We do not mix groups or add people to your group. Our hunters aren't walking through fields of standing corn or fields that have been hunted by other groups on the same day like at many other operations. Welcome to Gateway Canyon Preserve. We are a Central Oregon upland bird hunting preserve located on Vibbert Ranch just 11 miles North of Madras, Oregon. With 1,268 acres of prime upland habitat we are centrally located, just a little more than an hour from Bend and only 127 miles from Portland, one day trips are possible from almost anywhere in the valley, or come for an overnight stay in our lodge here on the preserve or motel in Madras just 20 minutes away. Hunt Club offers pheasant hunting. Under our Special Hunt program we offer to the hunter special, exclusive pheasant hunts as well as exclusive pond usage for the season. For the hunter who hunts all three we offer an Annual Membership. You will be hunting on our private club centered between Upper Klamath Lake and the Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge, surrounded by the Klamath River and straight across the river from the Miller Island State Game Refuge. Settled in the spectacular marsh complex of the Klamath Basin, the club property is used by ducks, geese, and pheasants. Our property consists of over 850 acres containing ponds, green marshes, and pastures. Add grain and alfalfa fields and miles of canals, and you have an excellent hunting environment.

Without the quarry there is no hunt. We have done careful research to find the wildest birds we can. We then use equipment and techniques that provide the most exercise and least possible contact with the birds as they are raised to maturity at 19 to 20 weeks of age.

The Oregon Preserve Hunting Season runs from August 1 through March 31. Noble Ridge will be opening August 1 for 2015 with hen and chukar hunts. Rooster hunts start mid Sept. Choose from guided with our dogs or non guided hunts with your own dogs. We welcome anywhere from one to six hunters in a party. Half day hunts are for 5 - 14 birds and full day hunts are for 15+ bird hunts except on weekends where half days are 10 birds and full days 20 birds. Hours depend on the month hunting. September half day morning hunts start earlier than other months. You will have the hunting area to yourself. Youth 16 & under hunt free with paid adult. Must have hunters safety course certificate. Women hunt free with a paying partner.

Upland game bird hunting on a preserve offers some real advantages. A longer season allows you to do more hunting in an area that is maintained for these purposes. This is better for the birds, the dogs and the hunters. Olex Preserve makes available guides and dogs. We wanted to put in a preserve to give people a place to season their dogs and to provide training assistance if needed. We have very good populations of wild birds both pheasants and valley quail, plus we release 24-80 pheasants per day depending on the number of hunters to maintain good hunting. Groups of 4 over the last few years have averaged around 25- 30 birds per day, with the high of over 50, many times.
